Africa is the second largest continent and the most populous continent in the world. About 30.2 million km2 including adjacent lands. It cover six percent of the earth's total total surface area . With 1.5 billion people as of 2012. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the north east, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the West. The continent includes Madagascar and various archipelagos . It has 54 fully states (countries) and 9 territories.
Africa is the youngest continent in term of its population. 50 percent of Africans are 19 years old or younger.
Africa's name is derived from an ancient area in modern day Tunisia known as Ifriqiya or Sunny Place.
Africa continent is subdivides in different regions or territories: Northern Africa, Western Africa, Central Africa, Eastern Africa and South Africa.
Homo Sapien Sapien or Modern Man first appeared in Ethiopia, East Africa, rift valley between 200,000-160,000 years ago the oldest known fossils of a modern human were found in Ethiopia dating 160,000 years ago.
